Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, met in Islamabad on Wednesday, according to Pakistan's foreign ministry.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to closer ties with Iran, and the two sides discussed regional developments, with Dar saying dialogue and diplomacy were the best way to address disputes and promote stability in the region, the statement said.
The meeting comes a day after Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran, where he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Pakistan, together with Qatar, has played a key mediating role in US - Iran talks, with recent diplomatic efforts raising hopes of a deal that could help restore access to the vital waterway through which roughly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments flowed before the war.
On Tuesday, Turkey's Anadolu news agency, citing Pakistani government sources, reported that Tehran and Washington had agreed to extend a 60-day ceasefire under their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
However, a senior Iranian source told Reuters on Wednesday there have been no talks on extending a ceasefire between Iran and the US under an interim deal, with Iran saying that Washington must return to the pact and define a timeframe to implement its commitments.
